The next day Wednesday 6/27 we stayed at a KOA campground in Clearwater, British Columbia and visited Wells Gray Provincial Park. This park’s claim to fame is fabulous waterfalls and it did not disappoint. With the run-off season and lots of recent rain combined the water falls are spectacular. Most of them are a walk through the rain forest 15 or 20 minutes. Some are quite steep but most just a gentle stroll. The first one we stopped at was Spahats. Very impressive how just falls off between those two boulders.
Another picture of Spahats from the viewing platform.
Along the way I made Dad take this picture of the
purple lupine. We have gone several
times to Lupine Meadows by Jackson to get a picture like this and the flowers
are never out. Dad only had to weed out
a few tall grass weeds with his pocket knife to get this fabulous shot. Maybe
with some tricky Fotoshop work we could get the flowers and the Tetons
together. Hmmm we will have to see about that.
The final falls on the Clearwater River was lower and
more spread out called Bailey’s Chute.
Still the volume and power of the water is impressive. It would be interesting to come back in the
fall and see the lower water and the bears here trying to eat the salmon
spawning.
Walking along all of these trails was definitely a
memory throwback to Sitka days. Very
rainforest type conditions with the skunk cabbage and devils club and joint
grass by the gazillions. Dad also got
some other neat flower pictures that day.
Another day confirming it sure is a beautiful world and
retirement is awesome!!
WOW, again. That seems to be my word for your adventure. Beautiful waterfalls and gorgeous flowers.
